Following its inaugural year as a fully-fledged production house, Opera UCT is hosting a gala evening on Tuesday February 27, at 7pm, to showcase what’s in store for audiences in the year ahead.
The event will start with a short concert by some of the voices Opera UCT has at its core, who will be accompanied by the school and production house’s director, Jeremy Silver.
Plans for 2024 that are due to be unveiled, include a world première staging of a nineteenth century opera, and some new national and international partnerships Opera UCT has secured.
Among this year’s singers at the concert will be tenor Luvo Maranti, one of the South African singers who competed in the finals of Plácido Domingo’s Operalia Competition in 2023 that was held in Cape Town.
Also, on the line-up are soprano Molly Dzangare who has been delighting audiences in Cape Town and her hometown of Harare for several years, and internet sensation Vuyisa Xipu, who has been singing as one of the Mzansi Tenors.
All three, and many of the other singers who will take to the stage, have appeared in fully staged Opera UCT productions held at the Baxter and Artscape theatres in 2023.
Tickets for Opera UCT’s 2024 season launch cost from R50 to R120 each through Webtickets.
