Design Indaba 2020 at Artscape

The Design Indaba 2020 will take place at the Artscape Piazza from Wednesday February 26 until Friday February 28.

The platform gives designers exposure to both local and international media and buyers.

Some of the highlights of the festival include:

Silkscreen artist Patrick Thomas will be setting up a screen-printing station, and visitors are encouraged to take old T-shirts and some ideas for printing.

Each evening, leaders in their respective fields will be hosting master classes, such as chef Jan Hendrik van der Westhuizen, trend forecaster Li Edelkoort and music video director, Motion Billy.

Nightscape, a selection of performances, installations, design exhibitions, master classes and live music will take place at the Artscape Theatre Centre from 6pm on Saturday February 22 and 6pm on Sunday February 23. Tickets cost R30 through Webtickets or R50 at the gate.

Every year, Design Indaba showcases the work of the next generation of up-and-coming designers. The Emerging Creatives Class of 2020, hand-picked by curators Mokoena Kobeli, Crystal Birch and Siyanda Mbele, will be on hand to exhibit and discuss their work.

The Emerging Creatives are supported by the Department of Arts and Culture.

Debbie Millman, who has interviewed some of the world’s greatest creative thinkers, such as Malcolm Gladwell, Stefan Sagmeister, Seth Godin, Steven Heller and more, on her award-winning podcast, Design Matters, will be hosting a live podcast as part of the Design Indaba Festival. The festival will run on Wednesday February 26 and on Thursday February 27, from 4pm to 9.30pm; and on Friday February 28, from 4pm till midnight. Tickets prices range from R465 to R 1 945.
