Driving under the influence of alcohol has increased by 69% week on week, according to City statistics.
A total of 115 drivers were caught drunk from Monday December 11 until yesterday, up by 47 cases from the 68 drivers who were arrested from Monday December 4 until last Monday.
“We have given people considerable warning about their actions. Those who continue to behave badly will learn that while it is festive outside, it is not so festive behind bars,” said mayoral committee member for safety and security JP Smith.
The traffic services recorded 36 392 speeding offences from Monday December 11 until yesterday and issued 23 980 fines for various traffic violations.
