A crime prevention operation across the CBD on Thursday May 19 saw known crime hotspots being targeted. The operation, undertaken by the Cape Town Central police station and Metro Police, covered areas such as the Grand Parade, the central bus terminus as well as Long, Strand, Lower Plein and Riebeeck streets.
According to Captain Ezra October, communications officer for the Cape Town Central police station, the operation was a success as it yielded numerous arrests. These include: two for drug possession, two for possession of stolen property, two for possession of car break-in equipment and two for possession of dangerous weapons. In addition, 28 traffic fines were issued.
