SAOTA Architecture and Design in Gardens were the winners of the eighth annual Architectural Futsal League. The league was established by architect, Bruno Lopes, eight years ago. This year’s league welcomed 11 teams from the country’s leading architectural firms including DHK, KMH Architecture and Interior Design, MLH Architects and Planners, Craft of Architecture, Steyn Le Roux Truter Architects, Wolff Architects, Jakupa Architects and Urban Designers, Jacobs Parker Architecture and Interior Design, Louis Karol Architects and SSH. Joining the league was a 12th sponsor team made up of players from the event sponsors, Corobrik, Hans Grohe and Duravit. The league began in February, with 5-a-side games taking place every Friday afternoon. The
semi-finals were held on May 24 with third place going to Louis Karol after beating Jakupa 3-1. The hotly-contested final game between SAOTA and DHK on Friday May 31 at the Hellenic Club in Mouille Point saw SAOTA clinch the win in the final two minutes of the game, finishing 5-4. The day also included a fun “last place contest” to find out who the Wooden Spoon winners would be, and this year the prize went to Jacobs Parker who had to donate R2 000 to a charity of their choice. The final games were followed by a prizegiving ceremony, which was attended by more than 300 people enjoying the spitbraai. A number of prizes were handed out with Mel de Freitas, of SAOTA, taking the top female goal-scorer award and Ryan Lee Adams of DHK named top male goal-scorer.
