The Cape Cultural Collective’s Women Arise-Phakamani Bafazi programme, comprising music, dance and poetry, will take place at the Slave Church Museum, 40 Long Street on Friday August 26, at 7pm.
The audience can expect to tune in to the poetic lyrics of Hip Hop Emcee, Natasha C Tafari aka Sibannac, as well as the melodic vocals of Maya Spector.
The stage will be graced by poets Diana Ferrus, Koleka Putuma and Roche Fester.
Poet-musician Blaq Pearl, Black Roots Marimba group and the Hosanna Dance group from Mitchell’s Plain will also perform.
The UWC Gender Equity Unit’s Edu-Drama will perform a short excerpt from the drama #WHATS LEFT OUT?
Two community groups – the Bonteheuwel Walking Ladies and the Belhar Golden Years Seniors Club – will entertain the audience with song and dance performances.
The event is organised in collaboration with the SA Sendinggestig Museum, which examines the history of slaves and other marginalised groups. The Cape Cultural Collective is a diverse cultural group that promotes ideals of unity, inclusivity and equality and draws a link between history and the social challenges of our time.
Entry is free and donations are welcome. Sound is provided by Elton Goslett.
