The Cape Chamber Music Collective’s first programme of the 2023 season will feature the Quintet for Clarinet and String Quartet in B minor Op. 115 by Brahms.
The Brahms will be preceded by the Shostakovich String Quartet no. 7 in F-sharp minor Op. 108.
The programme will be performed at various venues by an ensemble of both seasoned performers and young students. The string quartet comprises the violinists Valentina Vorster and Annien Shaw, violist Uliana Alekseev, and cellist Nicola McLachlan.
Currently, Valentina freelances as a solo and chamber musician and performs with the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra, the Cape Town Baroque Orchestra and the Stellenbosch University Camerata. Dr Annien Shaw is a soloist, chamber musician, Baroque violinist and teacher based in Cape Town. Uliana is currently studying her Masters in Professional Performance under the tutelage of Professor Gareth Lubbe at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen, Germany. Nicola completed her Bachelor of Music with distinction at the University of Cape Town with Graham du Plessis and is currently completing her Master’s at the Hochschule für Musik in Hanover, Germany.
Clarinettist Annelize De Villiers, who will join the quartet for the Brahms, graduated from the University of Cape Town with a B.Mus.(Hons.) distinction under Becky Steltzner. She then obtained her Master’s of Arts in Music Performance from the Haute Ecole de Musique de Lausanne in Switzerland under the tutelage of renowned Swiss clarinettist, Frédéric Rapin.
The programme will be presented at various venues in and around Cape Town:
- In the Cape Town city centre on Thursday February 16 at No 6 Spin Street, at 7pm. Tickets are R150 and include a free glass of wine.
- In Stellenbosch on Friday February 17 at Endler Hall, at 7.30pm. Tickets for R150 (regular), R110 (pensioners 60 years and over) and R50 (students and pupils) are available now through Webtickets and at the door one hour before the concert.
- In Rondebosch on Saturday February 18 at Erin Hall, 8 Erin Road, at 6pm. Tickets are R150, including a free glass of wine. Student tickets available at the door cost R75 on the day of the performance.
- In Durbanville on Wednesday February 22 at Rust-en-Vrede Gallery, Wellington Road, Durbanville, at 7pm. Tickets are R150.
