Bernadino Heights High School bagged the best production in the Artscape High School Drama Festival awards, held at held at the Artscape Theatre Centre on Saturday August 25.
The production, named Winston, was about a young man and the struggles he faced with being gay.
Sixteen finalist schools, selected from over 50 entries across the Western Cape, spent four days presenting their drama projects to a panel of adjudicators including Sticks Mdidimba, Ilne Fourie, Riaan Visman and Lesley Manim.
Thokozile Ntshinga, the advisor to the CEO of the Artscape, said: “This is a momentous occasion with so many groups participating and I would like to thank all the judges, teachers and artists for what they have done and it is a great honour for us to open our doors to the groups.
“This competition is about instilling critical thinking in these young actors minds.
“They make friends with other groups from other areas and cultures so that they appreciate and respect each other and have dignity.”
