Police warn the public to be vigilant
Cape Town Central police warned the public to be vigilant and to keep valuables out of sight when in public.
This after a woman was assaulted on Saturday October 17, in front of Bob’s Bar in Long Street as two men and a woman tried to grab her cellphone.
Police spokesperson Captain Ezra October said the woman managed to fight them off with the help of Central City Improvement District (CCID) security guards on Saturday, at 11:20pm.
The CCID security apprehended the three suspects and handed them over to police.
The woman sustained injuries to her left eye and her cellphone was damaged.
Captain October said residents and visitors should stay alert. “Walk with confidence and don’t use your cellphone while on the move. Don’t walk in deserted or dark areas, and watch out for sudden activity or commotion: it may be a distraction technique.
“Don’t use headphones on the street- they may distract you, and avoid visibility of valuables such as jewellery, cameras, laptops and tablets,” he said.
