Six firefighters, who were battling the fire on Table Mountain, were injured and taken to hospital last night.

The fire started just below Talefberg Road on Sunday afternoon before quickly spreading in the direction of Lion’s Head and Signal Hill due to windy conditions which were hampering firefighting efforts.

Homes in Nettleton Road were evacuated.

The City made available an emergency shelter at the Clifton Community Hall.

City’s Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson, Jermaine Carelse, said: “The incident has been divided into five areas in order to be more manageable. A total of 30 firefighting appliances and over 230 firefighters are still on scene. Table Mountain National Parks and WOF are also assisting.”

One firefighting appliance was destroyed in the fire.

The fire is still not contained yet.
