A number of civic organisations, among them the SA First Forum and Social Justice Coalition, gathered outside Parliament on Friday March 31 to protest against President Jacob Zuma’s Cabinet reshuffle which saw Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan and his deputy Mcebisi Jonas removed from office. On Monday April 3, South Africa was also downgraded to junk status by rating agency Standard & Poor’s (S&P). Political uncertainty and the changing of leadership including the Finance Minister were cited as the reasons for the downgrade.
