Lyle Joubert travels from Mitchells Plain by bus to the city centre. Travelling during lockdown is actually better because there is less traffic. In my experience, the buses werent overcrowded. They dont provide hand sanitiser, but there are signs to say that buses are sanitised daily.

During an address to the nation regarding the national lockdown to curb the spread of coronavirus on Sunday May 24, President Cyril Ramaphosa said one of the greatest challenges the country will face with the move to Level 3 on June 1 will be the increased risk of transmission in public transport. He called on partnerships between commuters, public transport operators, businesses and government to keep people safe. The CapeTowner spoke to commuters in the city centre to find out what their experiences are while travelling during lockdown.
