As a regular user of the wonderful Cape Town library I find it surprising that more than R43 million was spent on library upgrades last year but non-motorised transport does not appear to have been part of this.
At Cape Town library there is nowhere to lock bicycles so they are safe from prying fingers. The security guards are not interested and neither are the staff. I wrote to the mayor last year to ask for a bicycle rack and received no response. Maybe you will have more joy.
Zahid Badroodien, mayoral committee member for community services and health, responds: The building has heritage status and we are investigating the possibility of adding bicycle racks.
