A man had died in an apparent suicide, after he appeared to have fallen from the footbridge which forms part of the fan walk in Buitengracht Street.
The incident took place last Friday during peak traffic, where people noticed the man on the top of the footbridge.
A witness told the CapeTowner he had been up there for a while. Bystanders watched and took videos as the man threatened to jump.
In a video released on social media, it seems the man lost his footing and fell to his death.
Cape Town Central police spokesperson, Captain Ezra October, said an inquest docket has been opened to determine whether he committed suicide or if he was under the influence of a substance.
At the time that the Capetowner went
to print, the man had not yet been identified, but they suspect he was aged between 20 and 25.
Captain October said the man’s cousin worked in the city centre, and was to identify the body if no other family members came forward.
