Man arrested for possession of dagga

A man, who came to Cape Town Central police station to lay a charge of robbery after his bag was stolen, was arrested for possession of dagga after police recovered his bag and found the stash inside.

Cape Town police spokesperson, Captain Ezra October, said on Friday October 11 at around 7am, a Rastafarian man approached him while he was reading the paper.

“He told me he wanted to lay a charge as he was just robbed at knifepoint by three men at the abandoned CPUT building in District Six.”

Captain October called someone to assist, and Constable Thabo Bhila took the complainant to the building, where he found three men.

Constable Bhila said upon searching the men, he found one with a knife and arrested him, while the others fled.

“They told me they found the man sitting there and when they came, he ran and left his bag behind.

The bag was recovered, and while they checked if everything was in the bag, officers found 13 bags of dagga in it.

“The man admitted to selling dagga in the city centre, and we arrested him for possession of drugs.”

Police arrested a man for an attempted burglary in Waterkant Street.

Captain October said police were called to the scene where a man had been seen running from a house in Waterkant Street. Officers gave chase and caught the man in Strand Street.

The complainant, who was renting the house, identified the suspected burglar, and also mentioned that he had lost his keys a few days ago and suspected that was how the man got into his house as there was no sign of forced entry.

Nothing was stolen.
