Jewellery thief arrested at Waterfront

The three suspects, two women and a man, were caught on camera stealing a guests laptop bag.

An alleged jewellery thief was arrested on Youth Day, Saturday June 16, at the V&A Waterfront.

Metro police officers attached to the Service Animals unit were flagged down by a Law Enforcement colleague who informed them that they were looking for five suspects who had allegedly stolen a tray of diamonds from a jewellery store in Century City.

Metro police spokesperson, Zelda Martin, said Metro police, who had a description of the vehicle and the tracker location, found the vehicle parked at the V&A Waterfront.

While officers were busy at the vehicle, the suspects approached, but four of them got away and disappeared into the mall.

A 52-year-old man was apprehended and confirmed that he was the owner of the Suzuki hatchback. He was also later identified by means of CCTV footage and the Law Enforcement officer, as one of the suspects, and linked to another theft case in which a Rolex watch worth R275 000 had been stolen, He was detained at the Table Bay Harbour police station on a charge of theft.

A 15-year-old school boy stabbed a 13-year-old school girl after she allegedly teased him. The incident, during which the girl sustained a small stab wound to the back of the shoulder, took place on the Grand Parade on Friday June 15. Officers treated her wound and she and her attacker were taken to the Central police station and handed over to the duty officer.

The Cape Town Central police arrested two men for an attempted hijacking in Malan Street, Gardens.

A woman had been sitting in her car making a call when two men approached her, opened both front doors, climbed into the car, punched her in the face and grabbed her keys. She put up a fight and screamed for help.

A neighbour heard her and notified the Tamboerskloof Neighbourhood Watch, who then pursued the men as they ran away.

The men were caught by the neighbourhood watch and handed over to the police.

Police need help to identify a man who allegedly robbed a guest at a hotel in the city centre. On Thursday June 7, while a man was busy booking himself into the hotel, he left his laptop bag on the floor. When he was done, he noticed his laptop bag was missing. After viewing video footage from the hotel, police saw two women and a man enter the hotel, pretend to be guests, then take the laptop bag and leave.
