Two top Cape Town hotels are celebrating 20 years on the city skyline this month, with some special offers and a few trips down memory lane.
Southern Sun Waterfront Cape Town opened as Holiday Inn Waterfront Cape Town in July 1998, and The Cullinan opened a few months later that year. Both hotels are now part of the Tsogo Sun group.
Tsogo Sun operations director for the Cape region John van Rooyen said it was fitting the celebration was happening in September, Tourism Month, because both hotels had always been a key part of the city’s tourism offering.
Over the years, he said, Tsogo Sun, had been part of major
cycle tours, marathons, and cultural events such as the Cape Town Carnival, Cape Town Cycle Tour and Two Oceans Marathon.
Through the decades, the hotels have hosted global sports stars, celebrities, musicians, business leaders, politicians, and even royalty.
The king and queen of Greece, King Constantine II and Queen Anne-Marie; UB40, Watershed; Prime Circle; Black Panther actor Chadwick Boseman, Idris Elba, The Script,Winnie Mandela, Mi Casa, Loyiso Bala, Johnny Clegg, and many others have all checked in over the years.
The 20th anniversary celebrations in the hotels will give guests extra treats through the birthday month, with selected dishes and drinks being offered at special prices over the Heritage Day long weekend.
