In celebration of Leah Tutu’s 84th birthday, Mayor Patricia de Lille hosted a ceremonial tree-planting at the historic Granary Building on Saturday October 14.
The celebration was attended by family and friends of Mama Leah and Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu, who celebrated his birthday just a week before at the entrance of the Company’s Garden (“’Arch’ honoured with very own arch”, CapeTowner, October 12). The restoration of the more than 200-year-old Granary Building in Buitenkant Street will be completed in mid-November and will be leased to the Desmond and Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation for use as a Peace Centre.
