Fund-raiser for home for destitute women

Taryn Littles autobiographical production will raise funds for the Mater Domini home.

Finding your purpose, overcoming hardships and healing are some of the issues Big Bay resident,Taryn Little will explore in her autobiographical stage production, Who Am I?

The production, which is being staged to raise funds for the Mater Domini home for destitute women, in Claremont, tackles a number of questions Ms Little, 48, asked herself – Who am I? How can I overcome brokenness? How do I flourish despite debilitating circumstances? What is my purpose in the world?

In desperate pursuit of her identity, she embarked on a journey of self-discovery and healing and now shares what she has learnt along the way.

All the proceeds from the production will go to the Mater Domini home in Claremont which helps destitute pregnant women who have nowhere to go.

“This is an opportunity for me to give back to the Mater Domini home for their assistance to me and my son during a time of crisis,” she said

Ms Little, who grew up in Lansdowne, is still inspired by her late father, William Little, who opened the homeless shelter, the Ottery Wetton and Lansdowne (OWL) night shelter in Lansdowne nearly 20 years ago.

“My father was my first example of what it meant to live a life in service of others,” she said.

Ms Little has an Honours degree in psychology and has her sights set on a Master’s degree in nutritional psychology.

She lectures psychology at the Cornerstone Institute; is a motivational speaker and a writer; has an online health business; and runs wellness workshops.

Chairperson of Mater Domini,

Bernadette Ross, said they welcomed her support and appreciated her raising awareness for women who need help.

“She is now a voice for the voiceless and her story will speak for other women,” she said.

Ms Ross said her story would encourage women to speak out and break the cycle of abuse.

“If women are abused, the women are not the blame for the partners abuse towards them,” she said.

Who am I ? will play at the Arena at Artscape for one night only – on Saturday March 21 – and tickets, at R100 each, can be booked through Computicket.
