Eating on Table Mountain

Arjen Boswijk, the Netherlands

we saw the mountain covered

as a table in the past with grandparents,

candles, silver and damask

Clouds disappeared inland and the ocean promised a fine dinner

full of fish in butter sauce from Bloemfontein

and a sparkling Sauvignon from Stellenbosch

We ate in the sea wind but nothing

was blown into this bay even the white waves of this ocean

and our thoughts were silent in every language

Arjen is from Holland and has recently been to South Africa. This is the translation of the poem he wrote while he was on Table Mountain. The picture was taken from Robben Island.
