Cyclists must respect motorists

Eben van der Westhuizen, Fish Hoek

When I was a kid, we had to buy a bicycle licence. Now that I’m an adult, I have a legal driver’s licence. However, I must drive over a solid white line to overtake a cyclist.

If I prang my car, my insurance will not pay out, so my point is: cyclists, respect us motorists.

Cyclists are obviously employed and can afford the gear they wear, so I want to
appeal to you, please don’t, when we drive past you, show us a
zap sign or swear at
us as that will cause road rage.

Stop abusing us motorists. Remember we have the right to drive on the roads as well, so stop acting like spoiled brats, and respect the rules of the road.
