No person will be allowed to board a public transport vehicle without a mask or face cloth to cover their nose and mouth.

This as more people are allowed to go back to work under Level 4 lockdown.

Currently, the Western Cape has the highest cases of Covid-19. The province has 3362 confirmed cases since March and 64 deaths.

Mayoral committee member for transport, Felicity Purchase, said: “We will not allow any person to board a MyCiTi bus without a mask or cloth that covers their nose and mouth. The same applies to minibus-taxi operators and commuters.”

Commuters are required to wear a cloth or mask at all times, and must ensure that their nose and mouth are covered before, during, and after the trip, and in public spaces.

Under Level 4, public transport services such as the MyCiTi bus service, minibus-taxis, metred-taxis and e-hailing service providers are allowed to operate from 5am until 7pm daily. There is a grace period from 7pm to 8pm for operators to complete their trips, and to drop off passengers.

Minibus-taxis and buses may only use 70% of their licensed loading capacity to ensure that there is enough space for commuters to practice physical distancing, and to avoid contact.
