While the city centre was busier than usual on Thursday March 26, as people stocked up before the national 21-day lockdown aimed to stop the spread of Covid-19, it was quiet on Friday March 27, which marked the first day of the lockdown. The Waterfront was as deserted, with only one or two people walking with supplies from Pick n Pay, which remained open during the 21-day period. The lockdown is set to end on Friday April 17 at midnight.
