About 150 volunteers of the World Mission Society Church of God conducted the church’s 3 224th worldwide clean-up campaign in Old Marine Drive on the Foreshore on Sunday September 4, in celebration of receiving the Queen’s award for Voluntary Service in the UK in June.
The volunteers, dressed in green vests, aimed to raise environmental awareness as they walked with brooms, litter pickers and shovels along Old Marine Drive.
They picked up litter, empty glass bottles, cigarette butts and material that had been buried deep in the ground. Suzette Little, the City’s mayoral committee member for social development and early childhood development, complimented the work of the volunteers, said she was deeply impressed about the fact that the church had gathered an army of youth members.
The World Mission Society Church of God was established in 1964, and has churches in 175 countries, over 2 500 branches and a membership of 2.5 million.
