The Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra (CPO) welcomes in the New Year with its traditional Viennese New Year’s concerts on Saturday January 6 at the new Cape Town Convention Centre ll, at 3pm and 7pm. Conductor Richard Cock will be on the podium, and the wife and husband team of soprano Siphamandla Yakupa and tenor Lukhanyo Moyake, pictured, will sing popular opera arias, while the orchestra will play the melodies of Strauss, father and son, and many other Viennese favourites.
“While the format will be the same, we will be transporting you to Vienna via the Cape Town harbour, since the room has a view over the harbour. We looked far and wide for a suitable venue, since the City Hall is being renovated, and were delighted to be one of the first to introduce these lovely spaces to the general public,” says Louis Heyneman, the CPO’s chief executive. Tickets cost R130 and R90 for pensioners. Book at Computicket or Artscape Dial-A-Seat on 021 421 7695. Tickets will also be available at the door.
