Urinetown at the Artscape

Broadway musical Urinetown, presented by the Waterfront Theatre School, premieres in South Africa at the Artscape Arena, from Wednesday July 4 to Saturday July 14.

In a Gotham-like city, a water shortage, caused by a 20-year drought, has led to a government ban on private toilets. Citizens are forced to use public loos, regulated by a single malevolent company that profits by charging admission for the basic need to wee. But one person decides enough is enough.

Inspired by the work of Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill, Urinetown is an irreverent satire in which no one is safe from scrutiny.

Costumes are influenced by the steampunk aesthetic; combining historical elements with anachronistic technological features inspired by science fiction.

Performances are at 8pm each night. There are two matinees at 3.30pm on Saturdays July 7 and 14.

Tickets cost R150 each. Book through Artscape Dial-Seat at 021 421 7695 or Computicket.
