The first group of authors
has been announced for
the ninth Open Book Festival, which will take place from
Wednesday September 4
to Sunday September 8 at The Book Lounge, The Fugard Theatre, District Six Homecoming Centre and The A4 Arts Foundation, all in the Cape Town city centre, from 10am to 9pm each day.
The programme will include book launches, panel discussions, workshops, readings and performances.
The festival also hosts the Comics Fest, #cocreatePoetica and children’s and outreach programmes.
Selected events will also take place at Ottery and Elsies River libraries.
“We’re getting ready for another packed five days full of fascinating and insightful conversations, thought-provoking debates and superb entertainment,” says festival director Mervyn Sloman.
The international authors include Chigozie Obioma, Nicole Dennis-Benn, Oyinkan Braithwaite, Sarah Ladipo Manyika, Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah, Djamila Ibrahim, Carmen Maria Machado, Elisabeth Åsbrink, Saidiya Hartman, Jørn Lier Horst, Cheluchi Onyemelukwe-Onuobia and Patrick Flanery.
Local authors will include Pumla Gqola, Sisonke Msimang, B Camminga, Tlaleng Mofokeng, Mohale Mashigo, Ming-Cheau Lin, Fred Khumalo, Masande Ntshanga, Niq Mhlongo, Ivan Vladislavi, Ekow Duker, Rémy Ngamije, Keletso Mopai, Tumi Morake and Yusuf Daniels.
