Music Exchange returns

Music Exchange (#MEX19), an entertainment-economy-focused conference, returns to Cape Town from Friday September 13 to Sunday September 15 at the Radisson Red Hotel at the Waterfront.

This year’s theme will be “rights” and David Kramer will deliver the keynote address.

Starting on Friday September 13, at 2pm, MEX19 will officially opened by the Composers, Authors and Publishers Association (Capasso), the South African Performance Rights Association (SAMPRA), as well as the South African Music Rights Organisation (SAMRO).

There will be more than 19 talks and panels – all with the aim of empowering artists with practical knowledge to apply to their careers.

Others taking part include CEO of Just Music, Charles Kuhn, and head of A&R Matthew Fink; Lance Stehr , Head of Muthland Records; Steve Werner, station manager at KFM; Sotiris Moldovanos at music streaming service, Deezer Music; and a reality show panel hosted by RJ Benjamin, along with Idols winners Paxton Fielies and Sasha-Lee, and runner up, Lize Mynhardt and Elwira Standili.

The Voice SA contenders Robin Pieters, the PJ Twins and Amy Tsjasink, as well as X Factor winner David Januari will also join the panel.

Martin Myers, founder and convener of the conference, said: “This year MEX is delighted to have the key decision makers of some of the most important music bodies in South Africa attending.”

Artists include Chad Saaiman and MEX chairperson, Sipho Mabuse.

Booking agents and promoters Nikki Froneman, Jarrod Aston, Lesley Wells, Craig Parks and Lauren Parks will also be sharing
their knowledge, along with community radio specialist, Selwyn Bartlett.
