Kids’ workshops

The Zeitz MOCAA Centre for Art Education will host workshops for children during summer.

Led by experienced teachers, children will be inspired by the space and encouraged to explore a range of different wet and dry mediums and techniques such as painting, drawing, origami, collage, 3-D construction, and printmaking.

They will also explore the creative possibilities of paper, plastic, fabric and recycled materials and learn about the museum, the artworks on exhibition, and the history of the Silo District.

The workshops have been tailored to different age groups, with small classes.

Inspiring spaces will take place on Monday December 10, from 10am to 11.30am, for children aged 6 to 8 years old. They will learn how to make 3-D constructions using cardboard and paper. There will be another session from noon to 2pm for children from aged 9 to 12.

Looking at me, looking at you will take place on Tuesday December 11 from 10am to 11.30am for children aged 6 to 8.

They will learn mixed-media drawing and 3-D construction. There will be another session from noon to 2pm for children aged 9 to 12.

Ships in the harbour will take place on Wednesday December 13 from 10am to 11.30am for children aged 6 to 8 years old. They will learn how to paint, mix colour and draw with a brush. There will be another session from noon to 2pm for children aged 9 to 12.

Silo Circles will take place on Thursday December 14 from 10am to noon for children from 8 to 12.

Puppets in procession will take place on Monday December 17 from 10am to 11.30am for children aged 6 to 8. They will learn the art of paper puppet construction.

Wacky word designs will take place on Monday December 17 from noon to 2pm for children aged 9 to 12. They will learn to make a mixed-media collage. MOCAA creatures move will take place on Tuesday December 18 from 10am to 11.30am for children aged 6 to 8. They will learn to make a mixed-media drawing. There will be another session from noon to 2pm for children from ages 9 to 12.

Line, Shape, Colour, Go! will take place on Thursday December 20 from 10am to 11.30am for children aged 6 to 8. They will learn to have fun with lines, shapes, and colours. There will be another session from noon to 2pm for children from aged 9 to 12.

Mono-printing magic will take place on Thursday December 20 from 10am to 11.30am for children aged 6 to 8. They will learn to print with a pasta machine. Children of guardians who have museum membership can take part in the workshops for free. For children of non-member guardians, general museum admission of R190 is required.
