The production Hinterland is on stage at the Artscape Arena until Thursday September 1, as part of this year’s Heritage Festival.
Hinterland was nominated for four Naledi Awards, Best Director, Best Script, Best Newcomer and Best Production, and features David Dukas (7de Laan, Backstage, Isidingo, Jacob’s Cross and Home Affairs) and Sia Sikawuti (Richard III and Othello).
Written by Duncan Buwalda and directed by Caroline Smart, Hinterland revolves around a fictional meeting of Cecil John Rhodes (David Dukas) and Sol Plaatje (Sia Sikawuti) while Kimberley is besieged during the Anglo-Boer War.
Rhodes hires the young Plaatje as his new secretary, and the two develop the unlikeliest of friendships, full of humour, warmth and pathos. But the country is changing, and as Plaatje’s political career begins, the two men become set on a collision course that will change both their lives.
Tickets cost R80 or R50 each for students and pensioners and block bookings. Book at Computicket or Artscape Dial-a-Seat on 021 421 7839.
