The Waterfront has been hosting the High School Band Slam since Tuesday, and today, Thursday March 12, the Parklands College, Bishops and Elsies River high school bands will perform at the amphitheatre, from 6pm. The top three bands will stand a chance of winning a musical consultation and equipment for their school to the value of R20 000. An additional R5 000 will be awarded to the school that demonstrates they have the best crowd participation and support. Each school band will be scored by a panel of industry experts according to three categories. Musicality includes song arrangements, technical proficiency, artistic ability, originality and interpretation. For presentations the judges will look at performance attitude, stage dominance, confidence and rapport. For patronage, schools will need to show they have support, crowd participation, school spirit and enthusiasm. The competition is free to attend. For more information, visit www.waterfront.co.za
