CityVarsity’s annual event, BodySpectra , will take place on Friday November 18 at The Bancroft Studios in Vredehoek, at 8pm.
BodySpectra, which is themed Festival this year, is a showcase of the Cape Town campus’s art department, featuring catwalk-styled debuts of body painting.
“BodySpectra transforms the catwalk from its usual high-fashion fare into a carnival atmosphere where painted bodies, props and exceptional design transport guests into a fantasy world,” said Jo Roets, senior lecturer at CityVarsity’s art department.
The evening involves cocktails and canapes and an other-worldly fashion show. Cape Town-based singer-songwriter and Artscape alumi Noa Milan will be the MC.
With students spending up to 12 hours preparing each model, and a year’s worth of design and preparation as part of their coursework, BodySpectra is an opportunity for them to display their works and stand a chance to win top prizes.
BodySpectra awards will be given in four categories, including 100 percent body painting, 50/50 body painting and accessories, alumni and best model prizes.
Winners will be selected by a panel of CityVarsity graduates and leaders in the industry, including Ashley Powell, Marieke Merts and Roxanne Boehme.
The 2016 edition of BodySpectra marks the 17th year the show has been held. Originally a platform to introduce the art of body painting, make-up and prosthetics to the public, the event has grown to be a highly anticipated exhibition of CityVarsity’s young talent.
A portion of ticket sales for BodySpectra go to The Open Circle, a Maitland-based NPO that supports adults with intellectual disabilities.
Tickets cost R250 for seats, and R150 for guests standing. For more information or to book tickets, call 021 466 6800, or email Jo Roets at jo.roets@cityvarsity.co.za
