Dance and art blend in film

Emily Isted in the new dance film created against a stage of William Kentridges Why Should I Hesitate: Sculpture exhibition.

A new short dance film created by Cape Town City Ballet and Norval Foundation honours the work of artist William Kentridge.

Dancers from Cape Town City Ballet’s Choreolab programme each selected an artwork from Kentridge’s Why Should I Hesitate: Sculpture exhibition, which addresses his work as a sculptor, and created a short dance piece around it for inclusion in the film.

The score was composed by Peter Johnson, who drew inspiration from the sculptures and the dancers’ movements.

A trailer for the film can be viewed on YouTube. Search for Why Should I Hesitate: Sculpture – Short Film Trailer.
