The District Six Museum (D6M) will celebrate its 25th anniversary at the City Hall on Saturday December 14, from noon.
On 10 December 1994, the museum officially opened the doors to its first exhibition – Streets: Retracing District Six – at 25A Buitenkant Street, the Methodist Mission Church, which was to become its long-term home.
It had started its journey much earlier, during the Hands Off District Six Conference in 1989, where a call for the formation of a place of memory for District Six was made.
The D6M Foundation was formed in 1989, its ongoing journey being integrally connected to the process of land restitution for the people of
District Six. It sought to be a place of memory, hope and recovery.
A donation of R25 will be collected. For more information, call the museum at 021 466 7200.
