The Cape Cultural Collective will host the Sibhiyozela cultural picnic at the Castle of Good Hope on Sunday November 5, from 11am to 4pm.
Picnic goers will be able to take part in singing, group drumming, storytelling, poetry and dance, and there will be games for children. They will also learn about the history of the castle.
Among the featured acts will be Flamenco players, the Rosa Choir, poets, a minstrel group, teams of musical jammers, traditional Khoi music and rieldansers.
Entry to the family day is free. The event forms part of the Cape Cultural Collective’s 10th anniversary celebrations.
The castle’s restaurant will be serving food throughout the day but picnic goers can take their own baskets as well as blankets and chairs. No alcohol will be allowed.
The collective was initiated by a few former anti-apartheid activists and young post-apartheid poets who teamed up to host monthly cultural programmes featuring poetry, music and dance.
