The Cape Cultural Collective (CCC) will stage a Heritage Day production, Just Our Journey, at the Artscape on Monday September 24.
The CCC will be telling their story through poetry, music and dance.
The line-up includes Jill Levenberg of Suidooster and The Ellen Pakkies Story fame; saxophonist Don Vino Prins; the Rosa Choir; opera maestros The Gentlemen’s Ensemble; the Blackroots Marimba; the dancers of Likhwezi Arts Project; poet Khadija Heeger; Unmute; drag artist Manila von Teez; ethnomusicology artists Azanian Aesthetics and hip-hop group In the Key of B.
The director is Shihaam Domingo and Dillon April is the musical director.
Ms Domingo said, “I am amazed by the CCCs depth of work and the impact it makes through choirs, cultural programmes, youth development and social cohesion initiatives. This is a story that deserves to be told, and I feel privileged to be directing this particular production.”
The CCC was started by former anti-apartheid activists and young post-apartheid poets, who teamed up to host monthly cultural programmes of poetry, music and dance.
